997 NOT GT3
Weather, lately, has been rather... brisk. It's the perfect weather, really, to enjoy cars like the R32 with questionable AC or the Supra that may or may not be prone to heat soaking. The weather is, as car people would call it, boost weather. I figured because of this, I should really drive the R32 as much as I can regardless of the weather. Given that the car was well maintained, clean and spacious, I ended up driving the car almost everyday for the past 3 weeks. I pretty much want to put this blame purely on Austin since I had to go to LAX to pick him up and only the R32 can fit a luggage inside. Even though the car is very analog and as much as I enjoy the nostalgic feel, the feeling of having something old definitely gets old quickly. I guess it's fine if you have driven only old cars or you're into using Nokia brick phones.
Right after the track day, I reflected a little on the Supra and thought, man, it's a nice car but I wanted something that felt a little more track oriented. Don't get me wrong, the Supra felt great on the track and it was interesting driving it in automatic instead of using the paddle shifter. Issue with the Supra was that it was just too low and it was my real daily driver. It's one of those cars that I'm 99% sure will start when I get in it. The day after the track day, I called Jose and found out he had a K swapped civic at his place for sale. I quickly went over but also quickly realized it was an EM1. Nothing wrong with EM1 but it was my fault for not asking if it was a hatch or not. Regardless, we chatted a bit and found out he was looking at getting a 997 GT3 from a friend so the red 997 C2S in his showroom would be for sale. I hadn't entertained the idea of getting that car at all but here was my opportunity to. I went home and went over the pros and cons of the purchase and decided to pull the trigger.
The cons with the cars are few but here were a few things that bothered me. They are rather trivial but I think still warranted even if the price point was low. First, the e88 was refinished some time ago but whoever did the job did a horrible job at it. The lettering became shallow and some holes weren't cleaned, plugged or tapped during the process. Lastly, it has fake GT3 aero. I'm not sure if it's a pride thing but last thing I really want to pass off is that it's a GT3 when it's definitely not.
The pros, obviously, outweighs the cons. It's a cheap Porsche that I can track and beat without having any time of guilt or worry. I've always wanted to track my 991 GT3 but with how track days have been lately, minus the expensive but exclusive events (which i highly recommend), it's been nothing but a shit show. You're pretty much navigating traffic on a track with people that over estimated their experience.
So with that said, I dropped off the car at Vali Motorsports last week and with the engine due to arrive today, I hope to see the car before the end of the year but I understand if I won't due to the holidays. I'm just really excited for this car for some odd reason and I hope I'm satisfied with the overall experience of this.
Until next time.
