Supra
I've had the Supra for a solid month and a week or so now. As I stated in my last post, I really wished I got this car sooner but then I wouldn't have had the chance to experience these other cars. The supra, to me, is the perfect blend of Japanese styling with German engineering which makes the car complicated under the hood and complicated on the body line. As for how it drives, I really enjoy the feel and sound of the car. Sound has generally become just as important as the feel lately and the B58 with Apexi exhaust has really made it a pleasure to drive. Handling and styling wise, the car reminds me of the E85 Z4M. From the short rear end with long hood to the cabin, it's just a more updated Z4M which makes sense since it's on a Z4 platform. As for looks, I think it's pretty controversial since Toyota gave us such a good looking concept but the car definitely looks a lot better in person than in photos. I think it's hard to capture the proportions properly but it's just about right in person.
As for modifications, I'm pretty much done with it all with the exception of seats. The mod that made the biggest impact to me was the Apexi Exhaust which brought out the exhaust note a bit more without being overly loud. Stock, the car was a bit muffled when you turned off active cabin noise (speakers playing exhaust note). The exhaust was my first modification since this was in stock and ready to go.
The second and third modifications were grouped together since you can't lower the car without wheels and vice versa. I went with KW this time around since I wanted something on the premium end without putting unnecessary holes in my car like JRZ. Wheels, I went with 18x10 and 18x11 TE37 Saga in magnesium blue. I originally wanted bronze TE37 Ultra in 19" but after realizing how difficult it was, I settled for 18 TE37 Saga in bronze. Unfortunately. they were also very hard to get with only 18x10 and 18x11 TE37 Saga in mag blue being readily available. After installing them, the rears were poking slightly and the fronts were in about 10mm. Even though I have MSI studs and R40 Iconix lug nuts, I chose not to go with spacers and just went with the SPL catalog of arms.
For the fronts, the LCA needed a few other mods to help with widening the track. The first thing we did was move the camber plate to the center position so we can set the top of the wheels to the fender. Once that was done, we had to press out the front thrust arm bushings and install SPL adjustable caster bushings. This helps correct the caster since we'll be extending the bottom SPL lower control arm for camber. In this case, the SPL tie rod ends were not needed due to the OEM design being sufficient to be parallel with the ground and the ball joint being relatively centered. Since I purchased it, we installed it anyways.
For the rear multi link, we replaced all the pieces with SPL since they essentially needed the entire SPL arms to correct the alignment when pulling in about 5mm. Since the LCA were the KW sat is still on eccentric bolts, we had to make sure we didn't pull in the rear so much that we couldn't put the correct camber on the rear. After 14hrs, some sandwiches and chipotle, we finally finished and I really have to thank Son for putting up with setting my ride height and track width down to the mm.
The last thing that I felt the car really needed was just a clean lip kit/aero for the car. Stock, the front lips don't go all the way to the end of the bumper and this really shows on a white car. Luckily, the Orido x Akea kit fixed this exact issue and gives it a very clean look. The install was pretty straight forward and reused most of the factory bolts. There were about 6 self taps that needed to be done but they were in pretty subtle locations.
