Au Revoir R33
I went to ABS this afternoon with Matt since he had to drop off his car at DTM to get some repairs done and they were next to each other. During the ride there, sitting in Matt's 16kg NSX and Recaro RMS squishing my balls, I was reflecting on the R33. It might have been a reflection or life flashing before my eyes since I'm pretty sure all blood circulation was being cut from my balls. Regardless, I thought about how much of a dream car it was to own a GT-R. I remember since I was a kid growing up in Japan, I always wanted one since my dad used to call all other cars, other than GTR, a piece of shit. Sure, I didn't know that much about cars then but listening to my dad, I really believed it. I never thought I would buy one and in a few months, decide that it really wasn't the car for me. R32 was always the GTR for me but I was always somewhat indifferent about the R33. It was just one of those cars that really grew on me and made me appreciate it the older I became. So why the sudden sale? I wish it was an easy answer but it came down to life and where I am. I'm not in a position any longer to try and take on a long project and build something like my FRS again. That was truly a once in a life time build for me and that car really wore me out with how much actual planning it needed. The GTR being what it is would absolutely be no different and will probably actually require a lot more mental fortitude to complete. The weird part about this whole situation wasn't that I sold the car but how it unfolded.
I think about 10yrs ago, I was selling a set of Wedsport SA10R or something like that on Acurazine. I came across one of the threads where they were showcasing a NSX that Stance Nation posted. It was so subtle with the black paint that you almost couldn't tell it was a widebody NSX. I dug deeper and saw it was a lightly modified Route KS Madonna kit on it and I think that's when my true captivation to that widebody really started but I'll save that for another post. Fast forward 10 years, Justin introduced me to Elvis, owner of Stance Nation and he's the new owner of the R33. It's weird how life worked because if it wasn't for that article written by him and that actual NSX being my wallpaper for years, I don't think my fascination with NSX would be like this and instead, this post would be about how I sold the NSX instead of the R33. It still boggles my mind how he, himself, was literally the reason why I sold the R33 to him because of an article he wrote and featured 10 years prior. Talk about a long troll.
