R33 November Update

It's been a tumultuous week and life stops for no one. Parts have been slowly coming in and parts have also been getting ordered. I haven't driven the car for a few days now but the 3rd gear grind has been resolved with the fluid change. There's still some stiffness going into 2nd gear when cold but I think I'll just have to live with that for now. Ideally I want the Getrag from the R34 but they seem to be discontinued. I've heard rumors that you can order it from Nismo as a kit if you wanted to. I'll check up on that around January when I'm not so broke.

Monday, I drove to Torrance to meet up Makito from Seven Apples. Justin had a hood that he purchased from him so I took my aftermarket off and drove 1hr to Torrance. It was a bit sketchy but I kept my speed at 100kph. It's actually pretty refreshing how the car looks with a clean OEM hood but sucks that it's not painted white. I also spend a few minutes on Tuesday to take off the OEM sideskirts to ship up to Elvis. Once everything was off, 25yrs of dirt was finally exposed since I doubt anyone took off the sideskirt prior to clean it. Now the waiting game begins for the Nismo sideskirts to come in so I can paint the hood and sideskirts. In the mean time, the car is too ugly to drive around.

This week, all the SPL arms came in. I'm still waiting for them to finalize the HICAS delete for the R33 but this will do for now. Just waiting for all the Nismo arms to come in so I can put all of it in at once. I don't feel like paying for multiple alignments even though I've been doing that as of late. Some interior trim pieces from Nissanparts.cc also come in so that'll help refresh some of the interior. It's too bad the center console portion is still discontinued because this car desperately needs it. Cody also updated me that the Nismo lip and undertray was loaded into the container but the bumper didn't make it. Bummer but it's not a big deal since I didn't plan on painting those until January. In panic mode though, I ended up ordering the N1/kouki front crash beam from Nissanparts.cc since I was worried it might be the last one in stock before Nissan Heritage takes over production.

On an related note, I ordered the HKS 45th Anniversary Titanium Super Turbo exhaust for the R33. As much as I liked the Ganador Titanium, the angled out look was a bit too tuner looking for the style of the car. Luckily T14 had the HKS on blow out so that sealed the deal for me. I never would have considered the Super Turbo since I had that on the R32. The inner finned design and weight really kills it for me but on the R33, I think the finned look and titanium construction will be welcomed. Now that I think about it, it’s pretty crazy that T14 had one of these limited exhaust and it was also on sale. I remember seeing the video of the Thai guy that had two of them in his man cave and said something about only 20 being made. I’ll link that video below.

As for the R32, not much update but Aki did finish most of the AC system for that car. We're still waiting for a few parts but I'm definitely in no rush for it. The S14 got new wheels because I just couldn't do the highlighter yellow wheels. It's a bit too flashy for me. I ended up going with gloss black Advan TC3 that was on clearance. The color is definitely down there on my list of choices but I'll just make due until I have time and money to touch that car.

For this month, I think I'm going to start focusing on getting the Motec sorted, get the engine sorted and get ready to order the Motec C1212 with dash creator from Powertune. It'll be a nice change to have a digital cluster that looks OE and with values that are actually true to the sensor reading. I also need to figure out the leak I'm getting from washing the car. I noticed the trunk was a bit damp but not wet.
